Is One Sin Enough to Send You to Hell? (Clovis, NM Church Answers)
Imagine you’re standing before a judge in Curry County. You’ve lived a clean life—mostly. But then you confess, “Your honor, I only committed one crime.”
Do you think the judge will say, “Well, just one? You’re free to go!” Of course not. That one crime still deserves punishment.
Now imagine standing before a perfect God—who sees not only your actions but every thought and motive of your heart. Is one sin enough to separate you from Him? The Bible says yes.
The Problem with “Good Enough”
Most folks in Clovis say something like, “I’m a good person. I’ve never killed anyone. God knows my heart.” And that’s exactly the problem—He does.
“For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” – James 2:10
This doesn’t mean God is unfair. It means His standard is holiness, not “better than my neighbor.” Heaven isn’t for the decent. It’s for the forgiven.
How Many Lies Does It Take to Be a Liar?
Just one. Just one stolen item makes you a thief. One act of adultery makes you an adulterer. The truth is, we don’t just commit sin—we are sinners. That’s why we can’t save ourselves with religion, good works, or Sunday attendance.
Even our best efforts are like filthy rags in God’s eyes (Isaiah 64:6). But that’s not the end of the story.
The One Who Took It All
Enter Jesus. He lived a perfect, sinless life. He never lied, never lusted, never hated. And then He did the unthinkable—He willingly died in your place, paying your fine with His blood.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23
Every sin was placed on Him—your lies, your anger, your pride—and He paid for them so you don’t have to. But that forgiveness isn’t automatic. It must be received through repentance and faith in Christ alone.
One Step Away from Eternity
Friend, you may only have one breath left. Whether you’re 17 or 70, death plays no favorites. You’re not promised tomorrow. But God offers you something far greater—eternity with Him.
Are you willing to turn from sin and trust Jesus Christ? Or will you roll the dice with your soul, hoping one sin won’t count?
