Are You Saved… or Just Religious? (Church in Clovis, NM)

If you ask most people in Clovis, “Are you a Christian?” you’ll hear answers like:

• “Of course—I was baptized as a baby.”
• “I go to church when I can.”
• “My grandma was a prayer warrior.”

But here’s the problem—none of that saves you.

Religion Can’t Rescue You

Religion says, “Try harder.” Jesus says, “It is finished.” Religion is man’s attempt to reach God. The gospel is God reaching down to man.

Don’t mistake proximity for relationship. You can sit in a church pew every Sunday and still be lost. Judas Iscariot walked with Jesus for three years—and still went to Hell.

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven…” – Matthew 7:21

Check Yourself: Religion vs. Relationship

Religion says: “I believe in God.”

Salvation says: “I’ve been changed by Him.”

Religion says: “I try to be good.”

Salvation says: “I’ve repented and follow Christ.”

Religion says: “I’m spiritual.”

Salvation says: “I’ve been born again.”

Jesus said, “You must be born again” (John 3:3). Not religious. Not baptized. Born again—a total transformation from the inside out.

The Evidence of a Changed Life

If you truly know Jesus, your life will show it. You’ll hate sin, love His Word, and desire to tell others about Him. Not because you’re trying to earn Heaven—but because you already belong to Him.

Are you convicted when you sin? Do you hunger for righteousness? Or are you just checking the spiritual box once a week?

“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves.” – 2 Corinthians 13:5

God Wants Your Heart, Not Just Your Sunday

Jesus didn’t die so you could become “more religious.” He died to save your soul. He rose again to give you eternal life, not empty tradition.

If your faith feels dry, forced, or fake—it’s time for something real. And that begins by admitting your need and coming humbly to Christ.

Religion won’t save you—but Jesus can. Don’t settle for tradition. Come and experience a living God who changes lives.
