God, Are You Even There? When You Feel Alone in the Darkness
If you’re feeling hopeless and alone, it can feel like the world is moving on without you. Like you’re invisible. Like you’re shouting into a void and no one — not even God — hears you.
You’re not weak for feeling this way. You’re human. And you’re not alone. The Bible is filled with people who asked the same thing: “God, are You even there?”
Even the Strong Break Sometimes
King David was a man after God’s own heart, but even he said, “I am forgotten as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery.” (Psalm 31:12)
That’s not just sadness — that’s despair. God saw David in that moment, just like He sees you right now.
Elijah felt so alone, he asked God to take his life (1 Kings 19). But God didn’t rebuke him — He met him in his fear, fed him, and restored him. He didn’t offer lightning bolts. He offered a whisper.
What Loneliness Feels Like
It’s not just being physically alone. It’s that deep ache in your chest. It’s wondering if you matter. If anyone would notice if you disappeared. If even God notices.
But the truth is — you are not forgotten by God.
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast? Though she may forget, I will not forget you.” (Isaiah 49:15)
Why Does God Allow This?
It’s okay to ask why. Even Jesus asked why on the cross: “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46)
Sometimes the silence is where God is doing His deepest work. He draws close when we cry out. When we’re feeling hopeless and alone, He becomes our only hope.

The Power of Presence
God’s answer to loneliness is not always immediate change — it’s His presence. “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)
Sometimes you won’t feel it. But faith isn’t a feeling — it’s a trust. And God honors those who trust Him in the dark.
Take One Step Toward the Light
You don’t have to have all the answers. You just need to take one step toward the Light.
- Talk to God — even if it feels awkward.
- Reach out — call, text, show up at church.
- Let someone pray with you — you don’t have to carry this alone.
Our church in Clovis is filled with people who once felt like you do now. And many of them found hope when they met Jesus — not religion, not rules — but real relationship.
Need to know if God can really love someone like you? Read Can God Forgive Someone Like Me? — the answer might surprise you.
A Simple Prayer
You can pray something like this:
“God, I know I’ve sinned. I’ve run from You and tried to live life my own way. But today, I believe that Jesus died for me and rose again. I turn from my sin and I give You my heart. Make me new. I want to follow You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
If you prayed that — we’d love to talk with you and help you grow in your new walk with God.
