Why do so many believers stay silent about their faith? Often it comes down to one thing: fear of man. We’re worried about what people will think, say, or do if we share the gospel. But Scripture tells us that the fear of man is a trap—and the fear of God is the key to freedom.

The Fear of Man Is a Snare

Proverbs 29:25 warns, “The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe.” When we care more about human approval than God’s command, we become paralyzed. Silence may feel safe, but it robs others of hearing the truth that could save their souls.

Scripture Callout:
“The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe.” — Proverbs 29:25

The Fear of God Brings Boldness

When you realize that eternity hangs in the balance, the opinions of others lose their grip. Jesus said, “Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:28). A right view of God shrinks our fear of man.

Scripture Callout:
“Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” — Matthew 10:28

Remember the Power of the Gospel

You don’t have to rely on clever arguments or perfect delivery. The gospel itself is “the power of God to salvation” (Romans 1:16). When you trust the message, not yourself, boldness follows. God doesn’t need you to be eloquent—He calls you to be faithful.

Practical Steps to Overcome Fear

  • Pray for boldness. The early church prayed for courage to speak, and God answered (Acts 4:29–31).
  • Start small. Share with a friend, a coworker, or someone you meet in Clovis.
  • Use Scripture. Let God’s Word do the convicting; you’re just the messenger.
  • Focus on eternity. Remember that souls are at stake—fear fades when love for the lost grows.
